Florian Scheucher
Florian Scheucher is a postdisciplinary researcher, composer, and recording artist, living and working between London and Muscat. He is a Senior Lecturer at the Department for Urban Planning and Architectural Design at the German University of Technology in Oman, where he lectures on architectural history and theory, the medium of the architectural drawing, and the tensions between decoloniality and the spatial disciplines, and runs a series of design studios on collective space-making, and nonviolent architectures. His work interrogates the spatial disciplines in their complicity with, and dependence on, structures of imperialism and coloniality, and develops an understanding of spatial practice disentangled from the ubiquitous and hidden logics that limit every aspect of being in the world-system of modernity. Through a combination of research and writing on the Eurocentric tropes of Architecture and counter-hegemonic forms of space-making, a critical spatial pedagogy in institutional architectural education, and a sonic artistic practice, he explores the hidden shapes of thinking space that determine our social and political imagination, and that organise our daily engagements and co-constructive relationships with the worlds we inhabit. He has lectured publicly in both Austria and Oman. He holds an MA Architecture from the Royal College of Art, and a BSc Architecture from the University of Technology in Graz.
Florian has previously worked in several international practices in Europe, the UK, and Taiwan, most recently with BIAS Architects & Associates in Taipei. Their visual work has been exhibited, among others, in London at the Royal College of Art, at Pastificio Cerere in Rome, at HDA Graz, and at Architekturhaus Klagenfurt. They have released one album, two EPs, and several tracks on compilations, on Accidental Ltd., Industrial Coast, Dragon’s Eye Recordings, and others, to sparse but positive reviews.
